Objective: Community interpreting is a specific type of interpreting service which is found more in community-based than organisational situations. This type of interpreting is common and vital in communities with large numbers of ethnic minorities and immigrants. Community interpreting enables people who are not fluent speakers of the official language(s) of the country to communicate with the providers of public services so as to facilitate full and equal access to legal, health, education, government, and social services. The main objective of this course is to train professional community interpreters with a focus on multidimensional structure of the service.
Content: Concepts of community interpreting and public service interpreting; multidimensional structure of public service interpreting; examples of community interpreting practices at hospital, municipality, court etc. settings.
